We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Administrator to provide advanced systems administration services in support of critical government infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and management of complex IT systems, ensuring their availability, security, and optimal performance. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable Skills:
Demonstrated experience commensurate with the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) 5 or above.
Contract: 12 Months Contract with 2 x 12 months extension options
Security Required: Must be able to obtain NV2 - NV2 Desirable
Location - Canberra based

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Systems Administrator to provide advanced systems administration services in support of critical government infrastructure. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, and management of complex IT systems, ensuring their availability, security, and optimal performance. This role requires strong technical expertise, leadership, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Desirable Skills:
- Strong experience managing and optimizing Windows Desktop environments
- Experience working with government agencies or in highly regulated environments
- Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet
- System Administration: Lead the administration, configuration, and maintenance of complex server environments, including both physical and virtual infrastructure, ensuring high availability and optimal performance.
- Security Management: Implement and maintain security measures to protect systems and sensitive data. Perform regular security audits and patch management in accordance with government security protocols.
- System Monitoring: Oversee the monitoring of systems to ensure reliability, performance, and capacity. Proactively identify potential issues and take corrective actions to prevent service disruptions.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide advanced technical support for system issues, diagnosing and resolving complex problems related to operating systems, server environments, and IT infrastructure.
- Automation and Scripting: Develop and implement automation scripts for system management tasks to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention. Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, and/or PowerShell is highly desirable.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Ensure effective backup solutions are in place and regularly tested. Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans to safeguard critical data and services.
- Collaboration and Mentorship: Work closely with other IT teams, including network engineers, cybersecurity specialists, and software developers, to ensure seamless integration of systems. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior team members.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date system documentation, including configurations, system architectures, and processes. Prepare detailed reports on system performance and status for management and stakeholders.
- Compliance: Ensure that all systems and processes comply with Australian Government IT policies, frameworks, and regulations, including those related to cybersecurity, privacy, and risk management.
