Working closely with the casual workforce management team, the role is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to ensure the sustainability of language service provision through the implementation of a new workforce model for professional interpreters and translators.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Lead the establishment of an in-house interpreter and translator workforce function, including recruitment and onboarding strategies to attract, retain and develop top talent in a professional workforce, ensuring compliance with the Quality Assurance Framework, policies and procedures.
- Design and implement workforce strategies to build and develop a diverse, skilled, and sustainable team, ensuring alignment with divisional goals and fostering high performance.
- Monitor and assess service delivery standards, implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
- Collect, analyse, and report workforce metrics to support decision-making, performance monitoring and strategic workforce planning.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to identify and implement service improvements, fostering collaborative relationships.
- Implement performance frameworks and workforce planning strategies to support long-term sustainability and operational excellence.
- Manage workforce-related budgets, ensuring strategic allocation of resources to support program priorities and financial sustainability.
- Ensure compliance with policies, regulations, and the Quality Assurance Framework to uphold governance and ethical service delivery.
- Drive initiatives that promote inclusion, equity, and diversity within the interpreter and translator workforce, ensuring a welcoming and culturally responsive environment.
Key challenges:
- The reliance on a casual Interpreters and Translators workforce leads to inconsistencies in service delivery, including issues with performance, attendance and the ability of the casual workforce to decline work, impacting overall service quality.
- The current casual workforce approach does not guarantee a sufficient supply of interpreters and translators to meet rising demand, and investments in upskilling casual I&Ts may not yield long-term benefits due to their flexible work arrangements.
- Establishing effective frameworks to support workforce model changes, with a key focus on performance monitoring and management.
